I'm taking my concealed carry class tomorrow. Any other opponauts have a CCW? Tips/tricks for tomorrow? In return, CCW wheels with some Hoosiers, bro.

If you're headed to get your CCW I assume you have experience with firearms as well as you've been around them. If that isn't in fact the case, just remember your basics:
-Finger off the trigger unless you're ready to shoot (as in, aiming down, and controlled your breathing).
-NEVER POINT AT ANYTHING YOU DO NOT INTEND TO SHOOT
Other than that, they might run you trough scenarios in which you can be in danger to assess that you do not have some sort of death wish and want to shoot a baby that is crying too loud. Be yourself, calm and pay attention to the instructors.
Good luck! What do you plan to carry around?

I watched a video somewhere saying that if you get pulled over you have to tell the officer that you're packing, but I'm sure you already knew that.

Yeah, I've got the basics. I've been around firearms my whole life. Mostly I'll carry my Glock 19 (Gen 3 9mm). I have a 1911 that would be interesting to carry, but most likely I'll just keep that one in my glove box or something.
I actually don't intend on carrying that much, it's just (in my mind) a nice thing to have, especially since I transport my firearms to my cousins house (huge outdoor secluded range) so I won't have to worry about locking up and storing everything 'properly' just for a drive.
I'm excited for the shooting in the dark part. Idk if my nite sights will help at all, but it should be fun regardless!

Yeah, it's probably best practice. I've heard just hand them your license and CCW permit and tell them you have a firearm on you, what would you like me to do?

Ah, ze almighty Glock. Good choice. I'd keep the 1911 in the vehicle as you mentioned, but by law it has to be away from driver's reach. At least it was in AZ. So just for your own sake since you ARE carrying a firearm, unload it, use a slide lock if you have one, and make sure your rounds are in a separate box or container. While you won't get in trouble, you will make a Law Enforcement Officer feel 10000000000000000000000 times better about you carrying if you get pulled over. Besides, if its somewhere easy to access like the Glovebox it can be stolen easily. Just my 2c.
Shooting in the dark is a blast. Just make sure you are fully aware of what is around your targets, and if there are rocks or something that can make the round ricochet back to you or someone else.

I got my CCW a few years ago. Make sure you have an appropriate firearm with an appropriate holster worn with appropriate clothing.
I got the _ look from a lady in a Florida parking lot when the pocket holster I was using wasn't as discreet as it first appeared before wearing it out. I think she may have noticed a revolver-shaped bulge on my jeans.
I first tried it out standing in front of a mirror. My revolver didn't seem conspicuous in the pocket holster. But as I went out in public, certain movements like walking up stairs or stepping with long strides would tighten the denim and if you knew what to look for, you could probably tell I was packing heat.
I switched to a holster similar to the one here:
Also when I first got my CCW, I wore that thing everywhere. It didn't take long to figure out wearing a revolver while grocery shopping is more trouble than it's worth. Just wear it out if you know you'll be in a bad neighborhood.

I had mine till it expired. Never renewed it. Be careful, it comes with a stigma. I caught my wife cheating and punched a hole in my wall and cussed her like a dog. Next thing I knew she had me in court filing for a protective order. Exhibit one was the hole in the wall and exhibit two was my concealed carry certificate. Despite never once in 15 years of marriage hitting or even threatening to hit her the judge granted her the order. My atty said it was because I carry a gun and was clearly pissed off. Fuck that bitch.

Good luck. There's a huge case on it's way to the Supreme Court right now about NJ concealed carry. I guy who's job is ATM servicing was denied because they didn't think he needed it, and obviously that's one profession where personal protection is very important. Hopefully things will change soon.

On CCW setup, get a proper gun belt and proper holster for whatever pistol you choose. It will ensure you're carrying it right n' tight and help concealment if needed.
There are a few options for carry as well. In waist band, outside waist band, appendix*, shoulder, pocket (if applicable) and ankle. But you probably know this. Figure out which one works for you based on your pistol choice and is most concealable.
Get accustom to your carry choice and practice drawing (unloaded of course), go to the range often and fire both plinkin' rounds and your defensive round. etc. etc.
Most important part:
Lethal force is the absolute last resort. Never let yourself think that because you carry a firearm or have access to one, that you have some sort of added pressure or reason to use it. Avoid danger, avoid confrontation and exercise best judgement. Maintain situational awareness and keep your cool. Escalation leads to other things. You have no right to act as law enforcement, but to defend yourself and maybe another, if the situation becomes life threatening.
Stay safe and practice practice practice.

Jersey royally sucks. I would read up a lot before even attempting to apply because nearly 100% of the time you will get a declined. And when you go to another state to apply for a CCW, you will have to most likely answer a question "have you ever been denied a CCW permit in any other state" (something like that). And you legally have to put yes. Which could potential create some other issues.
Thats one of the bigger firearm forums for our state. I recommend checking it out as our lovely legislators are attempting to run new laws through again that are much more restrictive than last years. And at the moment, our AG is apparently trying to get the supreme court not to take the CCW case.

Theyve pretty much banned firearms, and allowed exceptions to the ban. So its important to be educated about this stuff.

The high and the low of living in Alaska.
The High: You don't need a permit to Conceal Carry. If you can legally carry you can legally conceal.
The Low: You don't need a permit to Conceal Carry. So if you are a crazy (but not prosecuted) wild freakazoid with anger management issues....you can carry.

Don't get fancy. Use a simple holster for the CCW class. I used a drop-holster and a Glock 20. I haven't renewed mine, I have to get around to it, but my carry rig is a cross-draw Galco Jackass rig with two AMT Javelina longslides. Backup is an AMT Automag II, .22 Mag, 3 3/8" barrel in an ankle holster.

Just expect for your night vision to go bye-bye... Try shooting a G20C at night. I almost bought one, but couldn't find one, so I settled with a plain-jane G20. But, before that, I had a G17C... absolutely blinding. Not sure what that idea was for. It looks wicked; I'd love to see a G20C with a G18 selector.....
But seriously. My backup gun is an AMT Automag II, a .22 Mag semi with a 3.375" barrel, and even in broad daylight, it spits a 6" fireball. Shot a rabid racoon at night once... was instantly deafened and blinded by the 3' flame leaving the barrel. Low visibility shooting is always considerably more challenging than anything else.

Yeah, you have to be very careful in some jurisdictions when you have the license. Most agencies with be able to look up and see if you have a concealed license before they even approach your car which can make things awkward if you drive near areas where guns aren't allowed, like universities or other "safe" zones. I've known people who had licenses and were treated as if they were committing felonies because they were going three over at the local university, so the officer assumed they were carrying at the same time, not calming down until well after the car was searched and interviews/interrogations were exhausted.
A lot of the warnings may or may not apply to you, so the best thing to do would be to search for laws or regulations regarding your state or county. Some states, like Minnesota, only even allow you to carry a handgun on you if you're transporting it to/from a range, to get it serviced, or to buy/sell one and the only benefit that a CCW would get you would be that you no longer would have to have it securely locked in a container separate from ammo while still holding to the prior restrictions. Idaho is a lot more lax on its gun laws in general, though you would still have to have a gun locked or partially disassembled if it were concealed in a car and you weren't present. I have taken a couple of courses but have gone without since I just opt to open carry whenever I go somewhere with the gun, such as to a range mostly.

Yeah. Even if your under threat of immediate death, your more likely to come across an abandoned pagani huayra with your name on it than get a ccw in jersey.
Dont get me going on the "evil features" explicitly banned on firearms in this state....
Thats a beautiful benelli though, looks rather comfy to hold. Good luck and hopefully we can get out of this state soon!

I saw in the comments that you have a Glock 19 . My advice is to carry something you're comfortable with. Shooting and carrying. I carry a Ruger GP-100 and the only thing that gets to me is the weight; size is totally a non-issue, and I'm a little guy. I usually carry IWB. Without a holster but that's because I haven't really looked hard enough for one I like.
Supertucks are excellent holsters but I don't carry enough to justify it. Also, it doesn't look like they make one for the GP-100.

I really do love my Glock, and I'm the best shot with it out of all my guns. I was also looking at picking up a Ruger LCR in .357. I've always wanted a revolver and it seems like the perfect size and weight for concealed carry. IWB would probably be what I would go for also.
